This dwarf Eastern White Pine is a slow-growing, globe-shaped conifer prized for its soft, silvery-blue needles and compact form. True to its name, Pinus Strobus ‘Sea Urchin’ forms a dense, rounded mound that resembles its ocean-dwelling namesake, bringing an unexpected coastal flair to gardens of all styles.
Key Features:
- Color & Texture: Fine, soft needles in a blue-green hue create a plush, touchable texture year-round.
- Low Maintenance: Requires little pruning; clean out needles each spring to prevent fungal disease - extremely hardy
- Versatile Use: Ideal for rock gardens, alpine plantings, foundation beds, or as a unique specimen in mixed borders.
- Deer Resistant & Drought Tolerant: Once established, ‘Sea Urchin’ is tolerant of dry conditions and generally unbothered by deer.
- Sun Exposure: Full sun to light shade
- Mature Size: 1-2 feet tall x 2-3 feet wide in 10 years
- Hardiness Zones: USDA 3-8
- Soil Preference: Well-draining soil, avoid heavy clay
- Watering: Regularly during the first year to establish roots, then reduce frequency.
