'Kohout's Ice Breaker' is a stunning dwarf Korean fir prized for its unique, curled silver-blue needles and compact growth habit. Originally discovered as a witch’s broom mutation of Abies koreana ‘Horstmann’s Silberlocke’, this slow-growing conifer forms a dense, mounding shape that becomes more conical with age.
Key Features:
- Striking Foliage: Curled needles reveal bright silver-white undersides, creating a shimmering effect in sunlight
- Compact & Slow-Growing: Ideal for small gardens, rock gardens, and container planting
- Cold Hardy & Low Maintenance: Thrives in colder growing zones and requires minimal care; no pruning needed unless to prune out a "leader" branch to keep a more globous form
- Plant Type: Evergreen conifer
- Sun Exposure: Full sun to partial shade
- Mature Size: 1-2 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide in 10 years
- Hardiness Zones: USDA 4-7
