Pinus parviflora ‘Blauer Engel’ is a spectacular selection of Japanese White Pine prized for its exceptionally light blue, two-toned needles and elegant upright growth. The long, slightly curved needles are arranged in dense clusters, giving the tree a soft, almost fluffy appearance that makes this cultivar stand out among other Japanese White Pines. ‘Blauer Engel’ translates to “Blue Angel,” an appropriate name for a pine with such striking blue-silver foliage. The needles have a beautiful contrast between their blue-green upper surface and silvery-white undersides, creating an almost shimmering effect as the branches move in the light. The American Conifer Society describes it as having arguably some of the lightest-blue foliage among the Pinus parviflora cultivars. The growth habit is broadly upright to oval, with attractive layered branching that gives mature plants a refined, architectural appearance.
