snow-kitten-yuki-yama-variegated-japanese-maple-live-plant
Snow Kitten aka Yuki Yama Rare Variegated Japanese Maple, Mikawa Type - Live Plant

For serious Japanese maple collectors, few cultivars generate as much excitement as Acer palmatum 'Snow Kitten', also known as 'Yuki Yama'. This exceptionally rare cultivar is believed to have originated as a sport on the legendary dwarf cultivar 'Mikawa Yatsubusa', making it one of the most coveted introductions in the collector market. Unlike commonly available Japanese maples, 'Snow Kitten' is produced in extremely limited numbers and is offered by only a handful of nurseries. When it does become available, it often sells out almost instantly. Its breathtaking foliage is every bit as remarkable as its rarity. Delicate green leaves are beautifully marbled and splashed with creamy white variegation, often accented by soft blush-pink tones on new spring growth. The combination creates the appearance of freshly fallen snow resting on each leaf—a striking display that inspired its fitting name. Every branch offers a unique pattern of variegation, making each tree a living work of art unlike any other Like its parent cultivar, 'Mikawa Yatsubusa', 'Snow Kitten' develops a dense, layered branching habit that gives it exceptional character even at a young age. As autumn arrives, the foliage transforms into brilliant shades of gold, orange, and crimson before revealing an elegant winter silhouette. Whether displayed as the centerpiece of a Japanese maple collection, showcased in a premium container, or planted in a prominent location where its rare beauty can be admired, this is a tree that stops visitors in their tracks.

Key Features:

Plant Type: Deciduous ornamental tree

Sun Exposure: Part sun, part shade

Mature Size: 3 ft x 2 ft in 10 years

Hardiness Zones: USDA 5-9

Soil Preference: Well-draining; this cultivar is significantly more sensitive/less tolerable to over-watering and staying too wet compared to Mikawa Yatsubusa

Watering: Moderate watering until established; pay particular attention to not over water while young - let dry out between waterings

Please Note:

**Each plant is unique and may vary slightly in size, color, or shape from the photos shown.

**All photos are representative of each plant's typical growth habit, color, & features and may not depict the exact crop available at time of purchase

**All trees are GRAFTED (unless otherwise noted in listing title)

Why You'll Love It: Some Japanese maples are beautiful - others become legends among collectors. Acer palmatum 'Snow Kitten' ('Yuki Yama') firmly belongs in both categories. Its fascinating origin as a sport of the iconic 'Mikawa Yatsubusa', its extraordinary cream-and-white variegation, and its extreme scarcity have made it one of the most sought-after Japanese maples in cultivation today. Opportunities to own one are genuinely uncommon, making it a prized addition to any serious collection.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0800/3708/5402/files/370ED8E8-D2A4-4566-9687-AC95F7B6642C.jpg?v=1792951530
